Re: 18/01 - January 2018 Screenshots
Well with mine, my settings are pretty much the same as Dave's oddly enough. The only difference I have is the water quality is set to low. I run TANE off an nvidia GTX 670 (4GB) card, which although older, seems to work quite well. I tend to set the sessions to run in the summer months... June/July, and start at mid day. But I guess that's down to personal choice. The only other thing I do with the screenshot is open it in IrfanView (64 bit) and resize it to 1024 for posting... that's pretty much it really.
A couple more while I'm here...
Cheers

Re: 18/01 - January 2018 Screenshots
I've got the i7-4790K @4Ghz (not overclocked) and the GTX1080Ti, James. I must say that T:ANE purrs like a Rolls Royce for me with everything set to "Max" at a resolution of 3840 x 2160 on a 40 inch monitor; so "just that little bit more" gets you to where you want to be I suppose (yes, quite expensive I know.) I'm not trying to be smug but I think with what's in the pipeline from N3V this coming year (and I've got no inside info, I'm just surmising) more GPU is going to be the order of the day. Investing (heavily) in the card that I have was supposed to future proof me for a few years but looking at the advances in gaming generally, I'm beginning to feel like I could be left behind in less time than I feared - but that's the world of computers for you these days. Nobody stays ahead of the game for very long.Mightyena wrote:...Sometimes I can't help thinking the reccomended specs are something along the lines of an i7-8700K @~5GHz, and dual Titan Xp SLI! One of the reasons why I'm still sticking it out with TS12

I love that grimy 80's / 90's grimy old industrial look you get Andy where all the walls, bridges, etc look old and dirty - plus the dirty trackbeds too as opposed to the fresh ballast look that most modern post-privatisation lines have. It's so realistic for that era.
With regards to graphics cards, I desperately need a new graphics card because my old one died completely around 18 months ago - but thanks to Bitcoin mining, the price of GPU's have gone through the roof - and I'm not prepared to pay the prices at the moment. Second hand ones are going for the price of what new ones were 2 years ago.
On the plus side, once the Bitcoin mining bubble bursts, Ebay will be full of cheap unneeded high-end graphics cards.

Thank you Briggsy... I try and use good quality content/items. I do prefer items that are perhaps weathered a little or 'photo-realistic'...... All adds to a more realistic look I guess.

Thanks to both Dave and Andy. I'll have a go with those settings and see what I get. My card is fairly happy with everything maxed but it doesn't seem to create the resolution you're both getting.

Re: 18/01 - January 2018 Screenshots
I think I'll have to give those settings a go at some point, as I've long been frustrated that I can't seem to produce shots that are as crisp as Dave's and Andy's. My graphics card should be up for the job, so it must be down to those little tweaks — thanks for the advice both of you.PFX wrote:Thanks to both Dave and Andy. I've set my ambient colours which has made a vast difference already however, I don't have the option of 'show post-processing settings' in the developer tab.Nexusdj wrote:The second process is started up after the sim is up and running in surveyor . Tab out the sim go to the main TANE program window and click on the "developer" tab
Click on "show post-processing settings"
With that open at the top select Mode and I either select "Ultra" or "manual" .
Ultra is a preset selection of settings but it certainly peps up the on screen image .
I'm pleased with the result nonetheless. It's removed the glare I was getting with previous settings.

Thanks. It's been a while but I'm almost there now except I'm adding some more on... I hope I do it justice.

I too have been having a lot of fun with ambient lighting, sun colour and post-processing. However, I also admit that I added a bit of touching up of the pics to get a more evocative look from my Lavenham route.....

They certainly have that air of age and romantic railway nostalgia about them Paul. Lovely shots.

Re: 18/01 - January 2018 Screenshots
Some great shots this month everyone!
Just got a new Graphics Card today, got fed up of constant AMD driver stopped responding errors in TANE, which happened on the my past 2 AMD cards, so decided to go ahead and get a Nvidia GTX 1080, and wow what a difference, 60 fps in most places, with settings on High and water on Ultra, and view distance on 6km they drop a bit to about 50 in built up areas like central Plymouth, but much better than on my previous AMD card (RX 580).
Had a test run on the Looe branch.
St Keyne, the trees are in distance are snow covered as I forgot to change the date settings, the others arn't seasonal.

Just a very quick play around with the settings - I can see there is definitely some mileage in fiddling around with the colours.
