Wow Andy! Just like Dave (nexusdj), you've really got that special knack when it comes to putting a decent picture together. Brilliant set Mate.

I had lost lots of my work so I started again a few months ago on a route inspired by the GEML.
So far i have 16 trains running 8 routes over the 50 mile mainline and branches.
I do need to replace all the catenary and track eventually but for now it more about building a network of mainline and branches

I absolutely love all that blue brick stuff Dave  . Is there any chance you might release any of it? For me, railway scenes in the UK have to have to plenty of blue brick to really impress. Our railways couldn't exist without it. Some of the places that really impressed me the most throughout my career on the railway were massive blue brick enclaves. The approach to Liverpool's Lime Street station is one of the best examples of blue brick construction I've ever seen. A place that never failed to impress me, no matter how many times I went there. Even Euston and up around Primrose Hill was impressive architecturally, all built with blue brick.

Sorry to sound like a gimme pig. I just love that blue brick architecture and you've got the colour of it bang on. ;)

Cheers

Already on the DLS , do a search for "Greybrick" and you should find 42 items I uploaded just before Christmas .

The brick texture was changed to grey from the blue I had originally used after Fuginator suggested I try it and we both agreed it looked far better under the lighting conditions found in Trainz . I had to call it greybrick to prevent confusion as I still have the original blue versions on my computer .

I have a few more "Greybrick" items to upload but at the moment its finding the motivation to go through them all to package them up , I was well into packaging and uploading content before Christmas but then my 5 month old Corsair PSU went pop the Saturday before Christmas !

A quick question for Dave and Andy in relation to shot quality.

Both of you seem to be able to get very sharp images and try as I might, I don't seem to be able to match either the lighting or image quality of you. Assuming you don't do this with image manipulation, is there a certain time of day or graphics settings you use?

Cheers,
Innis

A thousand thanks Dave. You've made my day.

I'm very interested to hear the answer to Innis' question above too. You two seem to have a magic touch that the rest of us somehow just can't find. :D

Thanks again Dave.

I hope that handbrake was on that before you took that screenshot Dave. Elf n safety and all that ;-)

Great shots. I agree about Dave and Andys shots having more sharpness to them.

High end graphics card?

Most of the effort is down to TANE and its array of settings .
My graphics card (ASUS Radeon R9 290x 4gb) settings are all set to "Use application settings" .
TANE's main settings are set to :

Shadow quality "High" (Ultra causes stutters on my current 8 year old temporary PC)
Main shadow resolution - 2048
Texture detail - Normal
Post processing - Off
Water Quality - High
Antialiasing - 8x
Detail Update rate - High
Use multiple render threads - yes
Use texture streaming - Yes
Use PhysX simulation - No (But I do use it without any discernible frame rate loss)
Process objects behind camera - Yes but turned "off" on high detail routes to boost frame rates

There are 2 more processes involved :
The first one is the tweaking of the colours in the environment lighting settings specifically "Ambient colour preview" and "Sun colour preview"
These need to be set for specific times of the day , Most folks opt just to tweak the ambient colour preview so that it shows "Grey" or darker grey or even black in the preview box .
It makes for an overall darker image but seems to really make the meshes in the Sim stand out as if they where a brand new type .
The "sun colour preview" can be adjusted to remove the bleached out effect and can be very effective if changed to a pink hue around dawn or sunset and if combined with a blue hue in the "ambient colour box" can make winter morning shots look very vivid .

The second process is started up after the sim is up and running in surveyor . Tab out the sim go to the main TANE program window and click on the "developer" tab
Click on "show post-processing settings"
With that open at the top select Mode and I either select "Ultra" or "manual" .
Ultra is a preset selection of settings but it certainly peps up the on screen image .

Manual mode is just that , you can mess to your hearts content to come up with all sorts of weird and wonderful effects on screen and the beauty of TANE's ability to run in windowed mode means you can have the settings window open above TANE to see exactly what you are changing .

The only downside at the moment is that you have no way of saving the external manual post processing settings when you shut down the Sim , So there's more time spent setting up the settings every time I run TANE , That's why I sometimes opt for Ultra mode to save time .

I'm not surprised, T:ANE seems to always want more, no matter how much PC you throw at it.

I get a mostly smooth experience on my PC (i5-4690K @4.1GHz, 16GB, GTX 1070, Trainz running off an SSD) with the following settings:

Resolution - Fullscreen 1920x1080
Shadow quality - High
Main shadow resolution - 2048
Texture detail - High
Post processing - Off
Water Quality - Ultra (although this one doesn't seem to affect performance much, even on ye olde GTX 570)
Antialiasing - 4x
Detail Update rate - High
Use multiple render threads - yes
Use texture streaming - Yes
Use PhysX simulation - No
Process objects behind camera - Yes

Still get a 20-30fps average in most detailed routes, and some pretty bad stuttering occasionally, but for the most part those settings work well for me.

Sometimes I can't help thinking the reccomended specs are something along the lines of an i7-8700K @~5GHz, and dual Titan Xp SLI! One of the reasons why I'm still sticking it out with TS12
