TS2010 to TC3

Post by Delia »

After much deliberation, I have decided that I'm going to go back to TC3. I have lately changed my computer OS to Windows 7 64 bit, and despite having this already on my laptop and thinking its not so bad, I hate having it on my main computer, I just don't like it as much as XP. And also, at the same time, I went up from TC3 to TS2010, which again, its now making me realise that I rather TC3 over TS2010. I will give it another chance when I get back to XP, but it seems far to jolty, for want of a better word, no matter how high or low a poly the train/buildings/anything else is, its constantly annoying the fact I can't find a way to sort that. And TS2010 seems much slower on the whole, instead of TC3 that was really quick off the mark, no matter how big or small your layout was or what programs I had running in the background. Like committing an asset for example, TS2010 CMP takes forever I've found...Maybe these are just my experiences, but as I write this, I'm set to go back to TC3.

I have TC3 on disk but I am currently working in TRS 2010 in compatabilty mode. I would like to use some of the built is assets from TC3. I tried cinverting TC3 assets t ocdp's but when installing them all I got was plain white textures. I can open CMP in TC3 and transfer static objects and import them into 2010 but they are not listed as kuids but have a different code of letters and numbera so it is dificult to find out what the assets are. Has anyone any ideas on transferring assets from TC3 to 2010?

Open the objects for editing in TC3 CMP and then open up 2010 CMP and use the "Import content" function , navigating it to your TC3 editing folder (or whatever it was called in TC3 ?!) and selecting the whole folder , this should grab every file that is open .

Once the objects are committed you'll find that they all throw up errors about missing texture files (or something similar) ?

Use the pevsoft "Images to tga" program to convert the .texture files to standard tga files then re-commit .

Any other errors you'll have to adjust yourself on an individual basis.

Delia's experiences with 2010 are the same as mine. I much prefer using TC3. What really annoys me about 2010 is the long waiting time before anything clicks in. Changing from Loco to other menus in surveyor seem to take ages. It's not right.
I never got this phenomenon with 2006 previously or now in TC3. I'm definitely not going to purchase 2012, I couldn't stand the anguish.

I knew there was a good reason why I stuck with 2006!!.

Why can't Auran just produce a base Trainz operating sytem like microsoft windows and just update like the said windows update method without having to keep buying new discs every couple of years, and then have to alter all the content to work on the next system.

All the very talented creators out there must get fed up when they spend months creating brilliant content only for it to last a couple of years when it won't work in another new version of Trainz.

Lets have a standard Trainz operating sytem so that whatever version we use the content will work properly in all variations (without modifications).

Nice idea, but it won't work. Now that TS12 rolling stock can cast shadows on itself all the shadow files will need redoing. Also the larger textures used by TS2009 and up assets will cripple earlier versions.

Hi Paul,

Pleased you could see where I was coming from.

It was a good thought though.
