Gradients
Hello all!
I am in the process of beginning a new route, Newport to Hereford, but am having trouble sourcing the gradient profile of the line in question.
I wouldn't call the line a mainline, hence why I doubt it would appear in the "British Railway Mainline Gradients" book.
So my question is, where would be best to source the gradient of this, and other lines from without too much expense?
Thanks
Richard

Western Region section - W16 "Shrewsbury-Hereford-Newport (North and west line) .
Western Region section - W16 "Shrewsbury-Hereford-Newport (North and west line) .
High visibility pixels must be worn when on or about the line !!

Ah ta, I assume it's quite a comprehensive book? Only thing putting me off is the price really. (Something that would seal it would be whether it covers Didcot north beyond Oxford?)Nexusdj wrote:it's actually in the BR Mainline gradient profiles book :

And it's a lovely line, traveled on it quite frequently during my years at uni, would also give plenty of traffic variation!Class172 wrote:Nice to someone's making the welsh marches line; southern half anyway

Current, so modern day era. With the potential to backdate I'm hoping.

Table W11 covers Aynho to Chester via Banbury-Leamington-Snow Hill-Wolverhampton (low level)-Shrewsbury (also covers Paddington to Aynho Jnc via High Wycombe)

Re: Gradients
It varies, though I haven't been able to find it for under £25 at the moment. However I'm currently bidding on one on ebay, so far it's only £15. Now, don't any of you try and outbid me, as I'll be well miffed!Class172 wrote:How much is this book?
Done So as soon as the book has arrived I'll get onto tracklaying!

Re: Gradients
class172, if you're thinking of buying a copy of that book, there is another up for sale on ebay.

I only build fictional routes, but I should think these profiles are indispensible for proto route builders.

Re: Gradients
Having a gradient profile is a godsend if you can find one. I was extremely lucky to find one online of the Tarka Line after a very quick google search, which allows me to complete that route accurately whilst I try and find others for the rest of Devon.
