Gradients

Post by Simply.Langers »

Hello all!

I am in the process of beginning a new route, Newport to Hereford, but am having trouble sourcing the gradient profile of the line in question.
I wouldn't call the line a mainline, hence why I doubt it would appear in the "British Railway Mainline Gradients" book.
So my question is, where would be best to source the gradient of this, and other lines from without too much expense?

Thanks

Richard

it's actually in the BR Mainline gradient profiles book :
Western Region section - W16 "Shrewsbury-Hereford-Newport (North and west line) .
High visibility pixels must be worn when on or about the line !!

Ah ta, I assume it's quite a comprehensive book? Only thing putting me off is the price really. (Something that would seal it would be whether it covers Didcot north beyond Oxford?)

And it's a lovely line, traveled on it quite frequently during my years at uni, would also give plenty of traffic variation! :)

Current, so modern day era. With the potential to backdate I'm hoping.

:)
Table W8 covers Didcot-Oxford-Worcester
Table W14 covers Wolvercot Jnc to Aynho Jnc (Oxford-Banbury)
Table W11 covers Aynho to Chester via Banbury-Leamington-Snow Hill-Wolverhampton (low level)-Shrewsbury (also covers Paddington to Aynho Jnc via High Wycombe)
High visibility pixels must be worn when on or about the line !!

It varies, though I haven't been able to find it for under £25 at the moment. However I'm currently bidding on one on ebay, so far it's only £15. Now, don't any of you try and outbid me, as I'll be well miffed! ;)

Done :D So as soon as the book has arrived I'll get onto tracklaying!

class172, if you're thinking of buying a copy of that book, there is another up for sale on ebay.

I only build fictional routes, but I should think these profiles are indispensible for proto route builders.

Having a gradient profile is a godsend if you can find one. I was extremely lucky to find one online of the Tarka Line after a very quick google search, which allows me to complete that route accurately whilst I try and find others for the rest of Devon.
