Trainz 12 is about £7 on steam if you can put up with the odd bug here and there? (may have changed)

Almost, but not quite. The following classes could be seen on the WCML between 1980 and 1990...

Class 08
Class 20
Class 24 (1980 only)
Class 25 (to 1987 only)
Class 31
Class 33 (mid-80s in the Crewe area)
Class 37
Class 40 (D200 to Spring 1988 - remainder to January 1985)
Class 45 (45106 to Winter 1989 - remainder to Summer 1988)
Class 46 (to November 1984)
Class 47
Class 50 (to late-80s in the Birmingham area)
Class 56
Class 58 (From 1983 - Midlands only)
Class 60 (Maybe on test in 1990)
Class 81 (normal service to 1988 - Euston ECS locos to 1990)
Class 82 (normal service to 1983 - Euston ECS locos to late 1987)
Class 83 (normal service to 1983 - Euston ECS locos to early 1989)
Class 84 (to November 1980)
Class 85 (85/1 during 1990 only)
Class 86
Class 87
Class 89 (test running on WCML)
Class 90 (from 1988 onwards)
Class 91 (believe tested on WCML from 1989 onwards)
Class 97 (ex-class 40 - to January 1987)
Class 100 (as part of "mobile museum" set only to 1988 - departmental to 1990)
Class 101
Class 103 (to end of 1982 only)
Class 104 (North West area only)
Class 108
Class 114 (late-80s in West Midlands only)
Class 115 (in North West, Birmingham and, from 1989, ECS to/from Bletchley for Chiltern Line services)
Class 116 (West Midlands only)
Class 117 (from mid-80s onwards, but West Midlands only)
Class 120 (North West and West Midlands areas)
Class 122 (North West and West Midlands areas)
Class 127 (Trailer cars in West Midlands from 1982 - 11 pairs converted and used as parcels units between 1985 and 1989)
Class 128
Class 140 (on test possibly)
Class 142
Class 150
Class 154 (Mainly in the West Midlands)
Class 155 (Long distance workings in the West Midlands)
Class 156 (North West and West Midlands only)
Class 158 (Possibly the Midlands and North West)
Class 302 (ECS runs to Wolverton Works for overhaul only)
Class 303 - LMR sets (North West - plus very occasional trips down the Trent Valley line)
Class 303 - ScR sets (ECS to Wolverton Works for refurbishment during mid-80s only)
Class 304 (North West and West Midlands only)
Class 305 (ECS to Wolverton Works for overhaul only)
Class 308 (ECS to Wolverton Works for overhaul only)
Class 310 (South East til 1987, West Midlands and very occasional forays to the North West)
Class 312 (West Midlands til late-80s)
Class 313 (South East from Summer 1985)
Class 317 (South East from 1987 to 1989)
Class 321 (South East from 1989)
Class 501 (South East to Summer 1985)

One more thing. The track layout at Crewe changed during the mid-80s (which was the reason for the retention of some class 40s - as class 97), so you'll actually need to create 2 versions of your route, depending on what part of that 10 year timespan you want to use.

1985 to be exact electra when a lot of the higher numbered platforms were taken out of use. Think there was up to 15 platforms but now the station only has 11 in passenger use.
