I don't know anything about these units Karl but many of those luggage areas were simply called "The cage" because that's what they basically were. A sturdy metal cage wall standing between the punters passing in the corridor and the valuables in the brake van.

If I remember right, (I was only 10 if that or so) I went on a bit of a trip down south and we caught a few of these trains. I remember one example it was blue grey with NSE logos I never forget walking through that area and there was just a wire mesh/fence type material separating the area, all the inside of the compartment was visible including a few piles of newspapers lol. Later on we caught another on the return. It had had a bit of a refresh and was in the then newish NSE livery. If I recall right on walking through the compartment had been panelled off with white/Greyish panelling. Matching the interior panels, Hope this is of some help.

Tah for the help everyone, I thought it was only the luggage partition interior doors that were made out of mesh, I don't know where I got that idea from!

This site has a couple of useful images: http://citytransport.info/Mk1.htm of the area in question.

The completed (ish) luggage van, the guards compartment is a bit spartan though, that backwall needs some brake gauges. If anyone has any good photos of EMU brake vans or MK1s that would be much appreciated. Thanks to Gary Green for allowing me to use his cage mesh texture as well.

Started on the MBSO underframe equipment from left to right, Equipment Link, Line Switches, Contactors, Reverser, Camshaft, Resistances x2, the reverser again and the air compressor. Tim Woods book, Southern Electric Driver was invaluable in working out the underframe equipment positions.

Looking great Karl. Strangely, pictures of guards nests are quite hard to come by for some reason. It never occurred to me in all my years on the railway to take a picture of where the guard lived - on any unit or coaching stock. Strange how things change.

Cheers

Imported the MBSO into trainz finally, still got to sort out the LOD meshes, door animation as well as create the correct bogies. The current bogies are from Tempest Trainz's 4CIG which are incorrect for VEPS, they used a similar design to Class 73 bogies but without the pickup shoe.

The VEP will also have a loadable parcels compartment, complete with brutes and luggage.

Project update: The refurbished MBSO for the VEP is nearing completion, it just needs lodding, as can be seen the main difference between that and the unrefurbished MBSO in the foreground, is the extra passenger space added in the old luggage compartment.

Image

Another more subtle difference is the use of the NSE moquette, whereas on the unrefurbished VEP I've used a checked blue pattern, similar to that used on Class 312s, 310s and various MK1s, however I think the correct pattern is actually a blue striped moquette. So I may change that, however it doesn't look too out of place.

Still lots to do though, I've still got to create a TSO, The DTSO needs more sorting out including scripting, creating an enginespec and creating some power bogies.
