Class 37/6 Newly Refurbished

Post by RowanTrodd »

Hi All,

I was looking at a recent 'real life reskin' completed at Eastleigh (just up the road from me).

However, as with a few of the newly refurbished class 37/6s, the headlight clusters are now right at the bottom and protrude slightly.

I am keen try and emulate this design through reskinning, but I am struggling to find a version of a 37/6 with the new headlight mounts in Trainz (let alone one with reskin rights). This refit is not unique, as is well detailed by this modelling site: http://s374444733.websitehome.co.uk/class-37/ - which includes pictures of DRS 37/6s with the same light configuration.

Anyway, my question is: does anybody know of one of these already in Trainz? And if not, who would you believe to be the best person to approach and ask if they could consider making a to tweak the mesh (There are so many uploaded 37s from different authors on the DLS)?
Kind regards,
R

I think most (if not all) the class 37's are based on Pikkabirds mesh, don't think anyone else has done a new mesh since 2004 (but I could be wrong)

http://www.srstrainzdlc.com/UK-Contents/ I don`t think srs will let you do any repaints as he sells the rights for his models.

Pikkabirds 37 : Not sure if the texture mapping on the existing meshes will support that livery correctly . Plus you still need permission to reskin and release his models .

SRS : Unless its changed since the license on the released models stated :
This is a freeware content and use this content for any kind of comercial use / release this content to public under another author KUIDs are prohibited.
Reskins are allowed to personal use only

Try contacting Pikkabird for permission and he may or may not entertain modifying an existing mesh ?

Contact the SRS Author to see if he will allow you to upload a reskinned version , though note that the DLS requires all new train vehicles to have multiple levels of LOD (at least 2 with the lowest being no more than 500 polys) and this newer 37 model only has 1 level of LOD . That doesn't stop you from uploading elsewhere but you'll need permission from the SRS author either way .

Third option is contact Matruk (Forum member on here) as he's purchased a set of meshes that he can modify plus a usage license from SRS ?
See this thread here : http://forum.british-trainz.co.uk/viewt ... 674#p32674

The best option would be to try doing the livery on the SRS version even if the front end details is wrong , We need more UK reskinners (especially modern liveries) and it doesn't hurt to practice , plus you know your covered by the existing SRS personal use reskin license ;)
High visibility pixels must be worn when on or about the line !!

Thanks everyone. Plenty to consider here, I'll certainly chase-up these up when time allows!

I've been doing some more research into this and when I peered back through photos, I also managed to find evidence of 37884, wearing the same livery with her original headlight arrangements - so we don't need to worry about the mesh tweaks.
A quick search of the DLS found a (tmz06003) Load Haul reskin of Pikkabird's 37. I contacted both, tmz06003 has kindly granted permission for me to base a reskin on his LoadHaul skin, however, the email to Pikkabird bounced as it failed to reach him - I presume he's no longer using pikkabird@pikkarail.com.
1) Does anyone have a different/reliable contact for him?
2) Does anybody have permission to upload reskins of his work already? (I could send a version to that person who could upload it - this would mean me yielding IPR and not supporting it either, certainly a final option).
I am also contacting Matruck to see what the state of play is with the license agreements for his (bought) SRS Model, in the hope he can allow reskin-able versions...

Hi I know i'm a bit late to this. If you trying to contact David Dallaston (Pikkabird), you could try his OpenTTD forum profile here https://www.tt-forums.net/memberlist.ph ... ile&u=4270 I think he's busy creating objects for that game now.
