London Transport Stock

Post by bird_d00 »

A quick screenie to show the current state of play on my O stock project - coming soon to a TPR near you (hopefully). Now featuring automatically generated running numbers, selectable destinations, working doors and loadable passengers. Main mesh more or less complete, just a couple of tweaks required, and needing some detail work on the underframe and the interior. I'm now working up some textures.

Looking great there.

Could I ask what script you'll be using for this?

It uses Andi06's "superscript" <kuid:122285:508> at the moment - although to be honest it is a bit overkill for just generating running numbers and changing the destination boards. I may end up rolling my own at some point even if only to stop reliance on other people's assets which people may or may not have access to.

That's advisable judging by the problems the superscript update has caused to older assets.

Have a look at the script in the blue/grey class 313 on the DLS, under uky901y's kuid. I made the updates including scripting so it would work in TRS2010 and it has support for 2 sets of blinds and alphanumbers. zxr400 allows use of some of his scripts with appropriate credits, check the remarks at the top of the script.

I've been making a bit of progress on this lately - the interior is progressing nicely, but I have a bit of a request here - does anyone have some decent pictures of period adverts as used in the strip above the the windows inside, where the line diagrams are. The only pictures I've come across distort horribly if you try to square up the perspective with Gimp. Something to do with the fact they are stuck onto a curved surface I guess. Maybe someone has pictures from the LT museum or the science museum (is there still a standard stock car there ?).

Interestingly, my latest project has run into the same problems that plagued my O stock - strange smoothing artifacts. Here's a little teaser, and in the words of Rolf Harris - can you tell what it is yet ?

Is it the Buffer spring above the Wedgelock coupler that's the problem?

By any chance, is that the 2009 Stock you're making?

The buffer does have some artifacts, but the main problem is the airdam. I have had to explode the vertices again, otherwise there appears to be huge black holes in the front as if it's run into something and been badly dented. Yes it is indeed the 2009 stock, using the sketchup model as a starting point, but very heavily modified to try to keep the polycount down. The bit you can see here is only 848 polys, down from about 2600 (not including bogeys), and there is some scope for further reduction here. The body will be more of a problem keeping the count down.

Nice, how many polys do you think it'll turn out to be in the end?

Also if you need any help with details for the 2009 stock let me know.

Reece

Well there is a TfL Acton Depot open day soon, went last year but can't remember if there was an O stock.
Looking forward to the 09 stock :)

Just to clarify, the adverts don't need to be from O stock, just something from roundabout that period, so 38 stock, standard stock or Q stock would probably have something suitable.

Reece, I'm hoping to get the polycount down to about 10,000 for the DM which should include some interior details. This may be a little optomistic however - we will see. The starting point was 15892 polys, and it's currently at just over 14000.

Dave, I might be able to get some when I volunteer at Acton, I'm not promising anything though.

The O stock looks great, I might be persuaded to get the new version of Trainz if a Q23 was made *cough cough*

Cheers,
Chris

Why on earth would a Q23 persuade you to buy a new version of Trainz ? All of my assets are for TRS2004/TRS2006.

I know but when I went over to the other sim (Yes...I know) I deleted my 06 to save disk space, Now I'm regretting it as my CD has a massive scratch on it
