Irish DEMU in perservation

Post by PFX »

Spent most of today helping with the delivery of a NI Railways 2 car 80 class DEMU to Dowpatrick and County Down Railway. Unfortunately I was too busy to take my own snaps but I've attached some links to the DCDR Facebook page which will give you an idea of what I'm talking about.

The set delivered were operating on the Sandite train for the last few years. The power car is in it's final NIR livery, and the driving trailer in yellow.

Another 2 car set is arriving tomorrow which has been repainted into the original livery from the 70s.

The 80 class were built by BREL in the 70s and as you can probably tell, were based on the Mk2 body shell. I'll post photos of the repainted units tomorrow.

Pictures stolen from one of my fellow volunteers.

Here's a photo of the repainted 80 class power car early this morning. There's a matching driving trailer to go with it.
