My best friends death.

Post by Aunty Acid »

Hello all,

I need a bit of sense slapped into me from some strangers.

My best friend overdosed, and in doing so, took her own life about 18 months ago. She was only 15. For obvious reasons, I haven't seemed to quite get over her suicide. If you don't mind, I am about to go into a sort of mini-obituary about her.

The day I heard about Ella's death, I went to a close friend of mine (who also happened to be Ella's ex). He turned to me, greasy sandy blonde hair flopping over his face, and raised his scarcely visible eyebrows;

"She's gone, isn't she?"

I broke down and tears and he held me and said in his croaky voice;

"I told ya, man. I told ya."

I have always been a socially-awkward greasy-haired little [insert appropriate curse here], but Ella managed to make me - no scrap that - she made everyone feel safe. The thing is about her death is that it's all been said on everyone else; "she was an angel; she was the best friend anyone could ever have," and while all those things are so true about her, I think that she deserved so much more. The thing is, I couldn't have asked for a better friend, and I certainly didn't deserve her. Even though I knew her for a year, it feels like I knew her for ten, and I think that shows in how her death has devastated not only me, but everyone else.

EDIT: Typos and more detail (This isn't Reddit, I know, but still)
Thanks,

Carol Stott.

Sorry to hear about that, there's not really any real advice I can give you but remember her in her best moments.

Sadly, in these circumstances, it is only time that heals.

Dave, I think your avatar may have solved my grief. And economic debt. And world hunger.
Thanks,

If it made you even smile, Carol, then it has achieved its aims :D

There's a saying that nobody ever said life was easy. Everytime I hear it, I always mutter to myself something along the lines of, "Somebody should have at least tried to warn us just how bloody cruel it often is though." All we can do is keep smiling and soldier on ;) .

Cheers

Dave
