Anyone want to try and do a trainers meet-up sometime in August/September?

If there is a bit of interest in this then we can work something out in regards to location, date etc! :)

EDIT: Massive rewording

I would most certainly be very interested, and have experience organising forum meets before (although not for trainz I'll admit)

Matthew, as you're travelling furthest - where(ish) are you staying and what dates are you over? I'd say aiming for a Saturday is going to be easiest, as it is when the vast majority of people will be free.

Locationally would have to be fairly central - we have members from right across the country: from Falmouth to Falkirk, from Llandudno to Lowestoft. Trying to pick something within reasonable travelling distance to everyone isn't going to be easy, but I'd likely suggest one of London, Birmingham, Derby or York as the 4 most central places to have a meet.

Lastly it'd need to be done quickly. If people want to travel by train Advance tickets for August and September have been on sale a while already, and thusly prices will already be rising.

I'd say that September would be better if we are going to meet as it gives us a wee bit more time for planning and arrangements to me made. Also, if this does go ahead, what sort of activities would we be doing? i know some stuff depends on location but it would be nice to have a rough idea before i, and others, put their name down.

I wouldn't mind a meet not to busy with any railtours at the moment only one on Saturday 21st September.

That experience of yours, in regards to organising forum meets, will help.... Honestly, this is the first time I've done such a thing! ;)

I will be staying at Oxford and Ascot, I'd say I'll be at Oxford more often though. As for the dates I am over, I arrive on the 12th August and leave on the 21st September. A Saturday sounds good, though on 2 dates - 17th and 31st August I already have plans and shall be busy then. All others I am free for!

Yeah, was going to suggest locations along the same lines as to what you have said - I am tempted to go for Derby. How would that go for everyone interested in this?

Activities, not sure yet.... What do you enjoy doing?

Damn looking decidedly doubtful for me now after i consulted my diary. I've got a railtour behind D1015 to Weymouth on the 7th Spet, then a visit to the NYMR on the 14th Sept and of cause the Carlisle railtour i mentioned above. Also got a railtour in South Wales on Sunday August 25th.

I see you haven't got plans on Sat 24th though. Both locations would be ok for me but obviously Derby is the closer for me. Looking at the timetable i could get to Oxford by train for £38.00 and at the earliest time of 08:40 and leave at 15:07 back home. There's always Monday 26th August as it's a bank holiday over here. It's your call to the location but be warned if you or anyone else travels by train to the East Midlands and needs to go through Nottingham. There's currently a blockade at Nottingham until August 25th for major engineering works and the station is closed.

Wow, you like your railtours Paul!!! ;)

Yep, no plans for the 24th. Will have to get back to you on the 26th though, as I can't remember if thats the day for a classic car show I'm going too.

Seeing as Derby is easy for you, we'll can make that the place for our meet up. (I am more than happy to travel up)

Is that day ok for everyone else? Or if needs be, another meet up day can be set up in September? Though Paul will be busy.

That Day will be ok but how about Crewe or Stafford They are easier to get to for people who are near the wcml or ecml swap trains at kings cross and head across to euston It isn't much of a walk or there is other ways or maybe Birmingham new street very easy to get to but not the nicest place for now

Problem with Birmingham New Street i've found that staff are very "jobsworth" about photographers and general rail enthusiasts to be honest.

Who wants to take photos at New Street anyway, then again I'm not too keen on the black country as a whole.
