Hmm, yes it looks like the maintenance workers need another lecture on the importance of properly labelling spare parts! Also a company wide memo has been sent out reiterating that whatever he says, Mr Clarkson is NOT to be allowed into the cab of any rail vehicle...

Thanks for the kind words though, and yeah, it'd be great if Trainz could get the enginesounds to work a little more realistically. Something like how BVE does it would be a massive improvement (though harder to create)

With all UK diesel units and locos, their engines are simply on tickover when they're braking. There's no clever usage of back EMF on British diesels. That sound shouldn't be hard to put in place, should it? (I wouldn't know for sure though cos that kind of stuff is space age technology to a thicko like me  .)

Cheers

Its more to do with how the enginesound files work. Basically trainz assumes all trains have 8 power notches, and plays a sound for running at notch x, throttling up, and throttling down.
For example when applying power, trainz would play the following files:
Idle 1
up 1-2
idle 2
up 2-3
idle 3
up 3-4
...
etc

and when reducing, it goes the other way:
down 4-3
idle 3
down 3-2
idle 2 etc

This works okay driving manually in cab mode, but in DCC or under AI control it basically divides the engines top speed by 8 and plays the notch x sound where

Code: Select all

x = (current speed/max speed) * 8
Works pretty well for EMUs, but means diesels essentially rev proportionally to their speed. To attempt to make them behave realistically would mean either sudden randomly high revs while braking, or sudden drops to idle while accelerating since both directions use the same idle sound.

Basically you're right in that it wouldn't be too difficult for N3V to add it, but its beyond most of us lowly content creators (unless you have enough time and alcohol to do it through scripting, and I'm about 5 industrial tankers of vodka short for that!)

I'd have been up for the vodka part a few years ago but it tends to make me lie down a lot these days (which is not good if you're still in your local pub when your legs resign  ) Thanks for the explanation, James.

Hello again, Just time for another video from me.

This time, it's a Journey, along the whole of my reworked Watley EV route, and includes a look at the part of the route that's changed the most - the newly electrified and doubled section between Watley and Poppy Lane.

The journey is on board the 08:00 Poppy Lane to Lightwood service, and calls at all stations en-route:
Castrel
Lower Watley
Watley
Cranton
Stourford
Hurtmore
Trident Lane
Bifton Beach
Saltley
Deepfields
Grantley

and arriving into Lightwood at 08:29.

Also working (somewhat miraculously) are the AI trains - there's a 6tph service along the main section between Lightwood and Watley, with 3tph continuing on to Poppy Lane. These are all running correctly in the video, though I need to get someone else to look at the session - it seems to be a 50/50 chance whether the AI will either follow the timetable perfectly, or have an aneurysm and cluster at one end of the route complaining...

Anyway, enjoy!

Midshire Mainline gets the AI treatment - a look at some of the services working on the Midshire Mainline, primarily at Radcott Parkway and Glauston International. Mostly London Midland services, but some Virgin Trains and CrossCountry workings can be seen as well.

Also includes a journey on a London Midland Class 342 from Radcott Parkway to Glauston International, calling only at Leyton.
Since this unit is 110mph capable, we then switch onto the fast lines for the rest of the way to Glauston.

Enjoy!

Excellent video Mark and thanks for making video's visible again :D

BR class 40 cab ride YouTube video on my work in progress Kates Hill route from the terminus at Norton Heath through to the intermediate station of Kings Bromwich .
Loco is set up to use the newer class 37 cab and I've removed the cabinsway feature as I know some don't like that .
*** Warning grey board sections may be visible in parts of this video ;) ***

High visibility pixels must be worn when on or about the line !!
