Irish GM thrash

Post by PFX »

At one time, almost the only sort of traction on Iarnród Éireann rails would have been GM. With only 2 classes of GM engined locos left in traffic, Here is a very rare glimpse of the Irish Traction Groups preserved A class A39, providing a bit of clag and thrash (albeit very briefly given speed restrictions). Turn up the sound to get the full effect of all 12 cylinders.

Many thanks for sharing the video .
I was a bit sceptical about GM loco's to start off with especially when the 66's came in and did away with my beloved 56 thrash but 10+ Years of Ying Ying changed all that , It also helped me broaden my horizons about what other loco's there are around the world and I always seem to make a beeline for GM thrash video's now on YouTube ;)

I love the Irish GMs. Have great memories of hearing them thundering round Dublin Bay from Dun Laoghaire; so different from the UK locos, including 66s.

If you haven't downloaded it already, try tmz's 141 Engine sound. I made the recording myself (having the distinct advantage of working on a 141). Not sure if tmz was buttering my bread or not but he reckons it's one of the best recorded engine sounds available. <KUID2:283805:53141:1> Turn up the volume!

Here's another one of the ITG's A39. Turn the sound up!

If you mean video wise, I don't think there is. The only time I recall seeing them is in one of Mike's other videos of the gala last year but I don't think the engines are running. Is there something particular you're after for the G?

Here's a bit more of the ITG A Class loco, A39 in action. You may actually see me driving it at one stage. What could be better? Lot's of things, I imagine.
