A problem with the DLS

Post by jack24 »

I've registered to Planet Auran, I've put in the serial number and I've put in my name and my password in the options for trainz but I can't manage to download anything from the DLS. How can I fix this?

You will need a First Class Ticket, if you don't already have one. These can be purchased from the Auran online shop for between £8 and £70 I think, depending on the duration of the ticket.

To clarify, If you are using 2006? its no longer supported, hasn't been since 2010, so you need either a supported version of Trainz, which currently is 2009, 2010 or TS12 or an FCT to access the DLS.

Another good reason to buy trainz 2009 and throw trainz 2006 in the bin

If your PC can handle it go for Trainz 2012 :)

I'm better off with trainz 2009 because it has better reviews and has more content.

Trainz 12 has more content, because everything in TS2009 also works in TS12 and there is lots of new content which only works in TS12. :)
I'm gonna' be a 'senior driver'-According to the Trainz 12 Achievements, thats 10,000 hours-over 1 year constantly using trainz, without faults...

And TS2009 will become unsupported by Auran within the next couple of years, so you won't get much time out of it until you have to buy an FCT for that aswell.

What reviews would they be? probably not done by anyone who actually uses Trainz on a regular basis.
More content?
2010 has all that 2009 has plus more additional content and works far better. 2009 was basically an interim version for content creators to get used to the new requirements for 2010.
TS12 does have less content, although most of what was in 2010 excluding routes, is available on the DLS for TS12 users or you can add 2010 to TS12, TS12 is massive to start with, having some large routes and would have been too large if all the old out of date stuff was included.

In my view 2009 was not as good as 2010, think of it as a beta for 2010, 2010 also has better performance than 2009 on the same hardware due to updates to the game engine.
TS12 has somewhat higher real life hardware requirements, the minimum spec will barely run if at all on lowest settings, recommended spec is a more realistic for a low end system.
TS12 up to build 49922 far exceeds anything previous as far as performance and appearance is concerned, there is however a problem with Service Pack 1, which N3V need to sort out and hopefully are beavering away at at present.

Think you may find there are very few people using 2009 now due to its limitations, poor rendering of billboard trees in compatibility mode, which has a negative effect on performance and virtually no trees that are usable in native mode. SpeedTrees were added in TS2010 for native mode and 2010 after patching up to date, renders the old billboard style trees better than 2009 does in compatibility mode.

2009 also isn't that stable, 2010 is better, TS12 pre SP1 is very stable and not hampered by compatibility mode which no longer exists.

Support ends for both 2009 and 2010 in September 2014. No date given for end of support for TS12 yet.

The most important thing to consider is which version is your PC capable of handling?

I was talking about the reviews on Amazon but now that I think about it the negative reviews are usually written by people that can't run the game on their PC and I thought that trainz 2009 content was not compatible with TS2012

Yes 2009 content IS compatible with Trainz 12 I have imported all of my routes I was working on in 2009 to 12 without a hitch. Trainz 2009 is a little more forgiving with content with errors than 2012 so keep that in mind as you will have to fix all the broken content you download or import. HTH :)

Yes you can just archive the route in your trainz 2006 content manager and create a Cmpa file and then open the archive and install all the files in the archive into trainz 2009 I would recommend finding the Cmpa file and clicking on the open button and it will open your trainz 2009 cmp and you can install them there are updates to some routes on the dls
