Sketchup into Gmax
Forgive me if this has already been covered before (I couldn't find what I wanted in the search page) - I am currently wrestling with the class 380 model from Sketchup and would like to export it into Gmax. I have chopped the train in half so that I can work on one side, and then copy that over; using the RubyTMIX exporter I have got the ploy count down to 12000 (from 10 times more) but I would like to refine the model more. How do I go about this?

Re: Sketchup into Gmax
If you are using the free version of Sketchup you need to export the model to a DAE format file and then import the DAE file to your 3D program. Sketchup pro exports to more formats.
I don't use GMAX so I don't know if that will import DAE files. Blender 2.6x, which is what I use, will import the DAE format.
You can expect the mesh to get mangled in the process, but you may be lucky...
One thing to be aware of is that Sketchup uses lots of textures which can, when making a Trainz model, lead to a big performance hit.
Good luck !

Re: Sketchup into Gmax
The search function must be spectacularly useless then. Try http://forum.british-trainz.co.uk/viewt ... =12&t=1819 for the easiest way to do it without loosing your textures and/or buggering up the scaling. Beware anything over about 20,000-30,000 polys can make the Gmax exporter choke.

Class172, you stole my idea! I'll let you get on with it, as I really can't be bothered to fight with it.
