I have recently got 3ds max 2011 for free on the student package, very usfull, and am building a few things, but i have just hit a couple of stumbling blocks and wondered if anybody was able to help.
First is the exporters for trainz, does anyone know where i can get suitable exporters for trainz.
Secondly, can anybody help me with texturing of models. I am really a complete novice to 3ds, but know a little about gmax, which has helped so far, but has proved of no use at all on the texturing front.
Many thanks

Re: 3ds 2011 general help
Mapping is easy once you get used to it, for this task and if Max 2011 accepts it, you could try texporter, which is a lovely little plug in to make mapping easier (available here: http://www.cuneytozdas.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=647 for 2010).
Bascially, there are 3 ways, you can assign a default modifier, unwrap the model onto a texture and something else I haven't used. If you just want to plonk a texture down without worrying about assigning areas of maps, then use UVW. If you want to use all available space on a map to make the object more efficent on the gpu, Unwrap is the way to go.
This explains the Unrwap UVWs function: http://www.republicofcode.com/tutorials ... e_stealth/
This also might be of interest, I never knew the render uv function existed: http://www.republicofcode.com/tutorials ... w_mapping/
