City of Hayden

Post by Mightyena »

Hey all, I just thought I'd create a topic for another of my random route projects from long ago that I've since resurrected. This one is the City of Hayden, the fictional city out of which the Hayden Trains network spans.

At the moment the focus is on the Citylink - a Thameslink-style line that runs through the city from Arboury in the north, through Hayden Hill, Hayden Central Mainline, George Street, Hayden Hope Street, and the Royal Gardens, before meeting the Fimbar Mainline at Bracknall in the south-west.

The line is currently run by a mixture of class 477/9 and refurbished & modernised class 502/3 and 502/4 units, although due to capacity upgrades, and the fact that the class 502s are limited to running south of Hayden Hill due to lack of pantographs, several leased 377/2 and 377/5 units are also running the line, which will eventually be replaced by a fleet of class 487s (Dual voltage class 478 variant).

The route does see quite a varied mix of traffic at its two ends however; the Bracknall end sees regular workings by classes 150, 165, 168, 170 and class 67+Mk3 coaches. The north end, shared with the NML out of Hayden Central, sees classes 91+Mk4, 222, 317, 321, 350, 360, 477 and 478, as well as the occasional class 150/166 working.

Hayden Hill is also undergoing rennovation as part of the Citylink upgrade work:

A 477/9 stops at platform 4 with a Local service to Marton Kingsway & Burnside:

A loaned FCC 377/5 changes power and prepares to come off the NML and continue onto the Citylink:

Sorry for not replying to this sooner...

When it's ready. I can't really say more than that since I don't have a great deal of time for Trainz anymore, and trying to balance work on other projects (such as Wendsey) without getting bored of either one means that progress can be slow and erratic.

1 - Not all of the buildings have night lighting. Some do, but it wasn't a priority
2 - At the moment, partly. When it's finished, yes the trains will be computer controlled. I'm not very good at sessions so I'll leave that sort of thing up to the community!
3 - Passenger numbers, no idea. Given its setting, quite a lot. The current service pattern is 6tph along the Citylink in either direction; 6tph south to Bracknall, 6tph north to Hayden Hill, 3 of which continue to Arboury.

The FCC Class 377 reskin looks good but I've noticed that the blue does in fact go over the roof on the cab section of the unit as the image below shows.

Hi all, just a little something to show some semblance of progress: A short video of the journey between George Street Junction and Hayden Hill, along the Citylink core:

Nice video you have there!

Can I ask, how did you manage to get the flange squeal sounds when going round the corners? That's one thing that's missing from Trainz.
Please, call me Alex.

Thanks! I'm not sure whether it will ever see the light of T:ANE though, my lowly computer is struggling with it already on TS12... That and even the SP1 update has broken most of my custom content

Thank you! The flange squeal noise is done using triggers. The asset is called "k m rail sound" <kuid2:579234:508:3>

It isn't on the DLS, but can be downloaded here

The trigger can also do junction sounds, in fact it does, towards the beginning of the video, when placed near a junction. I've found it invaluable! If only you could remove the default sounds too...

Hi all, just a little update:

City of Hayden council/Hayden Metro have been working to improve the city's transport experience. The last of a huge batch of C20 EMUs has entered service on the Hayden Metro, displacing all the old ex-London Underground stock previously running on the network.

The trains are not the only things being upgraded though. Fordeley Square Metro station has been rennovated and renamed as Sam Hill:

Farnleagh station has also been upgraded, with a new overall glass canopy and platform surfaces. Here are some comparison shots:
