Post by naf1234 »

I just though I would get the ball rolling with some food for thought.

Theresa May will 13th Prime Minister In the last 25 who hasn't been voted in by the general public.

British democracy anyway. The minority dictate to the majority.

The Tories (and the Tory Blair supporters) only like true democracy when it comes to the Unions holding strike votes. The fact that the Tories got into power on about 30% of a 30% turnout is neither here nor there to them, but if the Unions want to call for industrial action the Tories demand there must be something like at least a 60% or 70% turnout for the vote to be valid (I know something like that was proposed but I don't know how much of it was ever actually made law. Maybe someone could enlighten me.)

Currently, the whole political circus is in turmoil, although it seems that the Tories have whipped their troops into line before Labour can. Talking of Labour, and personally speaking, if Eagle gets the Labour Leader's job, I will never vote Labour again. It will be a classic case of Labour MP's throwing out the public's candidate and doing their own thing. It stinks. Just like demanding another E U Referendum. It will cause irreparable damage.

If it splits the Labour Party though, so be it. It will be good to see the back of those Tory nosed Blairites once and for all. They are a disgrace. They haven't got the balls to show their true colours and join the Tory party. No wonder the young turn their backs on these slimey, two-faced Parliamentarians - of all persuasions.

Let's see what chaos awaits now May is ready to take over in Downing Street. If she tries to emulate Thatcher then it will be time for half of these spineless anti-union moaners, who've had everything handed to them on a plate so far in their working lives, to "grow a pair" and learn to stand up for their rights and those of their fellow workers. If they don't then large scale poverty and deprivation will return. Which means crime increases, prisons become even more overcrowded - resulting in rioting etc - and we'll end having more rioting in our own towns and cities as the people who usually stir up bad feeling find plenty of support amongst the aggrieved. Not a great prospect.

I hope it works out differently, but I started out in life as the World's greatest optimist. Now? History and personal experience have turned me into one of its biggest cynics.

On a separate point, perhaps they should form the 'champaign socialist party!'

Technically, nobody ever votes in a Prime Minister.
When you cast your vote you are electing your local MP, that's all.

They don't even have the gall to call themselves socialist so hardly champagne socialists they're merely careerists, who don't want to be seen as tory.

This is true - but to an extent, people vote knowing full well that their vote in a general election also decides who becomes PM.

My "local" MP is a Labour MP - and he's bloody awful. He's rarely seen in Coventry (he lives in Surrey!) , and he's rarely seen in the House Of Commons too (because he's in a safe Labour seat and no matter how little he does, he'll always be voted in). He's another Labour MP that's sad on the wrong side of the house.......... I can't stand him - and would love to see the back of him HOWEVER, I detest the Tories even more - and the only way of keeping the Tories out of power traditionally is by voting Labour. The choice I have in Coventry is vote Tory (who I detest) - or to keep them out, vote for my local Labour MP (who I also detest) - or vote for another party that has zero chance of getting into government under the current FPTP voting system (which is pointless).

Until the voting system is changed to Proportional Representation, this is the big problem with British politics.

I think that's why the public are so fed up with Politics at the moment - and it's also the reason why Labour and the Tories are both in turmoil (although the Tories are about to sort their's out - Labour's seems to be getting worse rather than better).

I would celebrate if he was being replaced by a left winger. But someone even more right wing has replaced Cameron so I just have a faint sense of dread.

Although Teresa's speech, trying to appeal to the centre ground by mentioning fighting economic injustice just makes me think from the start she's full of sh*t as her cabinet is even more right wing then the last.

She's not got enough of a majority to upset the left wing Tories, besides I honestly don't think left or right really applies these days they are all pretty much the same when it comes to the crunch, in politics for what they can personally get out of it.
Cheers
