Found A early version on my old HDD started working on it again unfortunately dont have all the maps imported from sketchup and sketchup now doesn't support satellite imagery but here is some progress showing the said base maps on A completed and incomplete section.

Wow Kane, that is one very, very accurate layout. I'd recognise the place in my sleep (probably because I spent most of my time back then wishing I could get some sleep as I went by there  ) I think Wembley, Willesden and Stonebridge Park are permanently imprinted on the few brain cells I've got left (along with one or two other busy places that I worked through over the years) because you used to have to stay fully aware of what was going on around you in those places and from there on into Euston. Eyes wide open and alert. Moving traffic all around you. One mistake and you'd be on the National evening news.

Looks a fantastic bit of work you've done there though Mate. Are you going to release it?

Cheers

Thanks Dave it will be released when finished will go from Euston to Watford junction it's not made with dem thought and has a section with a junction that doesn't really exist that may eventually lead to a harbour to run freight and ex line trains to.

Depending on the year your after, it was largely covered in sidings. The attached file shows an old map from 1975/76. Looking at a later one from 1988, it appears to be almost exactly the same.

That was Willesden Brent Sidings, Kane. It was a freight marshalling yard (till about the mid 90's, I think) - though it was very run down and full of weeds etc for a good while before it closed. They eventually just moved the freight a mile or so up the road to Wembley (the left end of that block of sidings in your overlay in reality) and then sold the land off.

Hope that helps Mate.

Cheers

Thanks for the info im thinking about building A mail depot there for all the excellent mail rolling stock available for the sectorisation period and some more shots from the London transport section of the layout.

Wow, these look superb. Can I ask how you got the satellite imagery into Trainz? I have no idea about TransDEM and have been looking for a way to put Google map images onto my baseboards to keep things to scale but I haven't found a single way.

They were made in sketchup just open sketchup and click geo location add imagery and select the area you want then save it and export to trainz using the ruby tmix plug in.

https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthr ... e-SketchUp

Satellite images arnt available anymore as google doesn't provide satellite imagery anymore but the map that is available is pretty detailed with individual tracks and junctions and roads.

So, took me about 30 minutes to set up everything, follow some basic instructions and now I have a map on my baseboard. Thank you Mac for responding. So much easier than TransDEM (and yes, I know it doesn't have gradients, but the route I want to do, is pretty flat and I will use artistic licence lol).

BTW, how many maps have you tried to add in Sketchup? I only did one as a test but to save having hundreds of folders with small maps, I was looking at creating a larger one within Sketchup.

I keep the maps fairly small so they can be moved easy.

Hoping someone can shed some light on the speed limits between Euston and Watford junction starting to play around with signaling and speed limits.

Current up to date (June 2017) speeds on the route out of London Euston can be found in the Network Rail "London North Western South" sectional appendix :
http://archive.nr.co.uk/browseDirectory ... F%20copies

There are a few signalling diagrams available on the net covering the period from the late 1950's through to the 2000's .
Current diagrams are scarce , non existent or hidden away on sites for members only due to security and copyright issues .

Signalling notices on the Signalling Record Society website :
BR London Midland Region : http://www.s-r-s.org.uk/ArchiveSignals/brmr.php
Railtrack Midlands zone : http://www.s-r-s.org.uk/ArchiveSignals/rtmz.php
Network Rail - London north Western : http://www.s-r-s.org.uk/ArchiveSignals/nrlnw.php

Signalling notices.org website
BR London Midland region : http://www.signallingnotices.org.uk/notices.php?seq=68
Railtrack Midlands zone : http://www.signallingnotices.org.uk/notices.php?seq=88
Network Rail - London north Western : http://www.signallingnotices.org.uk/notices.php?seq=101

Open Train Times live signalling maps also show most of the signal numbers between Wembley central and Watford Junction :
http://www.opentraintimes.com/maps

There are plenty of fairly recent cab ride videos on Youtube :

London Euston to Rugby : https://youtu.be/CptJ1i4paRs
Northampton to London Euston : https://youtu.be/5yNV-HRkumE
Wembley Carriage sidings to Euston ECS move : https://youtu.be/vxSiHjTr6m0

Euston to Watford Junction with a proper train filmed back in 2000 whilst they where modernising the station approaches :

High visibility pixels must be worn when on or about the line !!

Re: Macneil's route

If you want to keep it simple Kane this is roughly what it was in my day down there when leaving Euston:

20mph in and around Euston station, 40mph all lines up Camden Bank to Primrose Hill.

Then:

Fast Line 90mph to Willesden Junction (just before Willesden Jn depot) then 110mph to Bushey and 90mph into Watford (back up to 110mph just before the station if passing through express on the main line.)

Slow Line pretty much 75 mph all the way to Watford

DC Lines - 40mph all the way up Camden Bank until into Primrose Hill Tunnel then 60mph to just after Kensal Green station, just as you leave the tunnel (north side or Willesden side of the tunnel) Then 30mph into Willesden Junction Low Level station (10mph into the bay platform.) Back up to 60 mph after Willesden then it was 60 pretty much all the way to Bushey. At Bushey it dropped to 30 mph all the way round the viaduct and the curve into Watford High Street station. Then it was 60mph up the Bank to Watford (but nobody ever achieved it, up or down) 15 mph into the Station all DC Lines.

Hope that's simple enough. You don't want to complicate things too much.

Cheers
