Oof, that just feels wrong somehow, used to ride those to/from school, until I started taking a later train, which was always a 317...

Especially with things like 313s and 319s still knocking about, seems like a waste, but I'm sure it makes sense from a logistical point of view

In short, the lack of a proper electrification policy in Englandshire has left them with nowhere to run; something not helped by the impending replacement of the 350/2 and 379 fleets. As others have pointed out elsewhere, even if Bozo pulled his finger out (and put together a cohesive electrification policy) now, it would be a number of years before we'd see anything that would requires a fleet of EMUs to work services on it; and, unless DfT/HM Treasury are prepared to cover the costs of looking after the fleet, Eversholt's best plan is to get shot of them, to reduce their storage costs.

Yeah, I can see how it makes sense to do away with them, it just hits differently knowing there are Mk3 and even PEP-derived EMUs still knocking about, and that the decrepit old 465s outlasted them. Last time I went on a 465 I could have sworn the last time it was cleaned NSE still existed... They're in a right state!

I'd hoped that, given the amount of extra electrification planned, north of the border, Transport Scotland might have a use for them, but (again) it all comes down to the length of time it takes to string up the "knitting"; along with the pending availability of the 350/2 fleet, which would fit in well with the 380s, already up there.

If the original Networkers outlast them, they'll only just manage it; given that plenty have already gone into storage, as "C" word service cuts bite and replacements arrive in the form the of 707 fleet. As for the internal state of them, just look at the kind of people that use them...

Yeah it would have been nice, especially since they've worked up there before so probably wouldn't need an insurmountable amount of paperwork to do so again, but alas...

True I've not really been "daahn saahf" recently, so I'd forgotten the 707s had come in on SE, though I thought 707s were on the metro routes supplementing 376s, and there weren't any plans to replace the 465s? If so I'm imagining they're gonna be around for a while, especially as things start to pick back up again.
