Changing build numbers
A large majority of my faulty content say 'This asset has a trainz-build number which is not recognised by this tool'. Opening them up, they all seem to be build 3.4. Would I be able to change the build number to 3 or 2.9 without this causing any problems with the content?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Changing build numbers
Depends on what it is, there is often more involved than just changing a build number. You can avoid downloading stuff for higher builds by Right clicking on the bar at the top of CM that says Status Name etc and put a tick in build version, you can then see what version an asset is for before downloading it.

Re: Changing build numbers
Thanks Clam. Only problem with that is CM won't let me download older versions, as they're obviously out of date, and so will only let me download the latest version. Although why it downloads things that are not compatible is beyond me!

Re: Changing build numbers
I appreciate that replying to my own post isn't really the 'done thing', but would I be easily able to patch up to TS2010 SP4? I currently am using SP3; build 49933. The SP4 patch is 46170>49938, yet I can't actually find any references to build 46170. Would this patch work for all users, or just those who are build 46170?

Re: Changing build numbers
49933 is SP4
46170 is multiplayer beta for which they removed compatibility mode. To use 46170 you can only patch from 44088, there was a split at 44088 to either Multiplayer Beta or SP4 49933. You don't need 49938 it was just a Multiplayer beta tweak. There shouldn't be anyone left using the MP Beta now as it's not compatible with later builds, so you are better off staying as you are.
Don't forget, there is no support for 2009 or 2010 from September so you are going to need either an FCT or TS12 to use the DLS and the minimum build number we can upload will be 3.5 which is the first release of TS12.

Re: Changing build numbers
Thanks for your help Clam.
If 49933 is SP4, why doesn't CM recognise items that are build 3.4? I thought this was TS2010 SP4?
Indeed, was aware it was becoming obsolete. I'm hoping I can get everything I need to downloaded by then, as I can't afford TS12 just yet. If and when I do get it, I certainly won't be looking forward to importing all of the content - again!

Re: Changing build numbers
2010SP3 is 3.3 and not the same as 2010SP4 which is 3.4 and no longer compatible with 2010SP3 if you follow.

Re: Changing build numbers
I think so - my CM shows it as being build 3.3. Is there something I can download to make it 3.4, or is there nothing I can do about it?

Re: Changing build numbers
Not with going backwards and installing the Multiplayer beta. Seriously you are probably better of going for TS12, just don't go any higher the 49922
By the way build numbers are allocated in the order in which they are done, thus you have a 2010 build at one point higher than a TS12 one.

Thanks.
Why do you suggest not to go over 49922?

Well you did ask............pellet wrote:Thanks.

SP1 seems to cause problems for some users but not all.
Examples being.
Repeated extended validation problem for some users. May be related to Windows 8 (Not a problem here)
Tightened up error checking, which many find frustrating.
Random vanishing splines wall track etc.
Blank patches of track appearing for short distance, appears to be due to poor rendering of terrain on a random basis.
Issues with tracking camera, random but long pause on changing views from Cab to external, bogies and or large chunks of consist vanishing when tracking Camera swings round.
Slightly Lower frame rates in DirectX (OpenGL is still low but actually better than pre SP1)
OpenGL rendering of anything with a masked Alpha seems to be pixelated if you look at it closely.
DLC DRM'd and locked so unable to edit it and has to be re-downloaded as a digital install from within the games, the old installers / disks no longer work neither will existing DLC has to be in the new format of packages rather than ja files.
Issues with saving routes in surveyor, due to the over complicated things they have done with layers and locking, can be done but it's now got beyond a non tech user who just wants to click save and expect it to actually save without annoying "Computer says No" type messages appearing after sitting there for 3 or 4 minutes waiting for something to happen.
Steam physics changed, so anything pre SP1 is likely to behave badly especially in reverse!
Having said that it's not a show stopper, just in my view Pre SP1 was better.

Re: Changing build numbers
Judging by that, what you've suggested seems to be very sound advice, as has the other things you've said throughout this thread of course, thanks Clam.

Re: Changing build numbers
Dan,
Just backing up what Malc has said really. Go for TS12, a disc copy if you can find one cheaply enough and (unless you already have it) it may be worth getting S&C on disc as well as it would be a handy backup if a DRM disaster strikes.
Personally I have been using TS12 SP1 since the SP came out and have not had any problems.
