Super Karl. Instantly recognisable. Incredible to think that it ended up a single track from having almost 20, including 3 platforms at one stage.

Re: 20/05 - May 2020 Screenshots
...and it still looked bleak in the mid 80's Karl. I was shocked when I was sent to learn the road out that way. We (at Watford) covered Gospel Oak to North Woolwich and I still thought everywhere around London was a bustling hive of activity at the time - mind you, I was only in my mid 20's and had no experience of the capital outside of the usual tourist spots back then. As Innis says though, instantly recognisable in your shots (for anyone who's been there.) I always thought the place looked so sad and depressing (similar to the atmosphere around Broad Street Station in many ways.) Like Broad Street, it was obvious that it had had a very important past but was now dying on its feet right before our eyes and there was nothing we could do to help or stop it from happening. So sad.klambert wrote:The bleak environs of North Woolwich sometime in the mid 70s. (as pictures above)
Great route though Karl. Looks brilliant.

Re: 20/05 - May 2020 Screenshots
Thanks for the kind comments chaps, much appreciated.
A Quick Screenshot to keep things on topic A Stratford 37 propels the daily Temple Mills to Silvertown Scrap train into Silvertown Yard, although it appears the driver forgot to stick the rear lights on.
The area around Woolwich is still pretty bleak to this day, despite the best efforts of the developers. Probably aided by the thick fug of diesel particulates from lorries queuing for the ferry, the nearby Tate and Lyle works and the air of dereliction that still hangs over the station area, although from what I hear the station is being redeveloped into artist residences now. The disused stations site and D.Brennands books on the Railways of East London have provided invaluable reference material. What helps is he was a driver at Stratford in the 70s - 90s so plenty of photos of that period.cyberdonblue wrote:As Innis says though, instantly recognisable in your shots (for anyone who's been there.) Re: 20/05 - May 2020 Screenshots
Not much of interest in this screenshot (taken in surveyor) but for me, it marks a bit of a milestone as the OHLE, most of the textures and a bit of scenery finally connect up with the rest of the Rosworth Vale route which essentially means that overall, it is largely complete. I need to go over the original Rosworth Vale section as my techniques have changed considerably since I did it, and there is an uncompleted portion of that which needs OHLE and retextured. With the exception of the Edinburgh to Glasgow screenshots, most of the other stuff I've been posting has been taken on the route so you should have a fair idea of what it looks like.

Looks superb Innis. I think I know how you feel. Even the smallest of personal milestones can give you a boost sometimes
