Watching the train... a FGW Class 153 crosses Tamerton Lake on the Gunnislake branch.

Re: 23/04 - April 2023 Screenshots
So Mark has kindly given me permission to modify his brilliant Cornish route and take it back around 45 years. This will basically put back a lot of track, sidings and rail industry that has long been lost over the decades. I'm using websites, many of my books and just general memories to recreate that era. I will also remove roads and buildings that weren't around the best I can and things like PZ heliport will be reinstated and the Pullman coaches at Marazion.
This is Hayle, the wharf branch is still in operation with the Esso depot but although still standing the power station and Associated Octel have closed awaiting demolition in the early 80's
A class 25 reverses down the branch with tanks for the Esso depot
Over the crossing it goes
Heading on to the wharf, there was a strange arrangement at the crossing with a 5th barrier to stop traffic on the wharf bridge
At the depot ready to drop the full tanks
Hayle power station
A down parcels makes it way over Hayle viaduct

Still work to do, but here is a few shots of the Penzance area around 1980. The HST's have arrived but the semaphores are still in action, replaced in 82. note the gasometer still sits proud in the town
The Motorail terminal was still in operation
A HST from the capital passes the Pullmans at Marazion

Re: 23/04 - April 2023 Screenshots
Firstly cheers Mark and Rob.
Thought I'd put a last few up to finish the month
Ponsandane yard with the old Heliport in the background. yes they didn't have the old Chinooks at PZ, but it's the only BA helicopter on the DLS, so I reckon the ferry was in the dry dock for emergency repairs and BA got the big guns in because passenger numbers were on the up
Ponsandane signal box and crossing, they survived until the mid 80's then both were removed and the footbridge was put in it's place
The goods shed stood for a few more years until it was demolished to make way for a Safeway supermarket. A few roads next to the shed were removed in 1977/8 to make way for the new wash facilities for the maintenance shed built for the HST's
The depot pilot loco gets ready to shunt stock onto platform 2 for a service to BTM. That 50 at Posandane yard is on it's way
50027 Lion gives it the berries as it heads to PZ on the final part of it's journey with the run down from St Erth. Ironically with a line speed of 75mph it's the fastest stretch of track in the county yet only a couple of miles from the end of the line. I've added some cant (superelevation) to the curves while I'm at it
A down parcels service climbs the small rise up to St Erth. The down sidings are still in periodic use with either milk tankers or engineering stock
Class 50 Ajax has been relegated to shunting duties at the St Ivel creamery St Erth. The six wheeled tankers look lovely in their St Ivel livery, but in reality they were generally unbranded and in a very sorry state, anyone fancy a reskin job? . The milk trains ran daily to London, often picking up at Roskear and Lostwithiel along the way
