Street Maps

Post by Aunty Acid »

Hi,
I'm wondering if there is any way to transpose street maps on to a Trainz map, other than manually? Just curious.

FYI: I am dyslexic with no coding skills whatsoever, so please dumb it down!
Thanks,

Carol Stott.

Transdem will do that and more, it's not free but not expensive either http://rolandziegler.de/StreckeUndLands ... z_Engl.htm

And have a look at this thread on the N3V forum https://forums.auran.com/trainz/showthr ... t=Transdem

Hi,

You'll have to excuse my stupidity - I can't seem to find the download/purchase link anywhere!
Thanks,

Malcolm,

You can now stand down, sir - I've figured it out!

If anyone has free alternatives, I'll be also interested. Always one for a bargain!
Thanks,

Carol Stott.

I doubt you'll find any freebies of the quality of TransDEM. It's worth every penny and more. You certainly won't regret buying it.

Dave,

It seems so. I'll put some money aside for it this christmas. A little treat, shall we say.

If you can't afford it you can do the "hard old school way" let me explain. You swipe beetwen Trainz and Google Earth and in GE you go to your line you want to create and measure it, you can do the same for the topography, but all the measurement has to be in kilometers to be more precise ( because the game is made in Australia and they use metric units ) not in yards or miles ( I forgot what you use in the UK ). But for me as the others sayed TRANSDEM is the best investment and time-economy.

A free "alternative" is to use basemap tiles, I think they're called...they're on the DLS, essentially it's a giant square the size of a baseboard which you reskin to have a aerial photo or map on. It won't give you elevation, but will give you a layout of where things are. A topo map will at least show you elevation lines within a degree. It's way more manual.
