west coast mainline
After A long browse through my old HDD I came across the DEM file that A fellow forum member kindly provided me I decided to start work on it the Dem starts at Euston and stops at Crewe at this point im not sure how far I will build the line to but the first release will stop at Watford junction.
Trackwork to Watford junction is complete with scenery overhead lines and signaling finished from Euston to the tunnel under the junction of Parkway and Gloucester avenue im now at the slow process of building the Primrose hill tunnels and junction.
now for the early screens.

Superb work, Kane, and very accurate. It'll be an absolute beauty when it's finished, I'm sure.
Cheers

Re: west coast mainline
Great pictures, Kane. Thanks for the memories.
Personally, I used to love going through the Rat Hole but it became a rare event because, from about the mid 80's onwards, it was only used for ECS and parcels traffic - "...except where authorised," which was BR's way of saying when everything goes tits up. Weekend engineering works or points/signal failures usually meant a trip through there but the last I heard it was shut and the track taken out. I don't know if that's true. The tunnel was a gentle reversed S shape and so narrow that no one on the train could open a door to escape in the event of a fire - hence passenger trains were officially prohibited. There was nothing level in there. You dived in and you climbed out. It really was a tight fit with a maximum speed of 10 mph, which wasn't easy to hold when you had a loco and a rake of coaching stock.
When passenger trains were sent through there you were supposed to be guaranteed the route right through and out the other end (there was a signal with a telephone in an alcove about 50 yards from the Euston end of the tunnel.) The operative words there are "supposed to be." On more than one occasion I had to use the telephone mounted on the tunnel wall at cab height to ask why I'd been stopped. It was very handy. Open the cab door and the phone was right there in front of you - providing you didn't stop short, of course.
Happy days... Cheers Kane.

Wondering if anyone would no what assets I need to do this properly I have all of Nexusdjs overhead line assets but not sure what parts I need to use and were to get this done properly.

Re: west coast mainline
Dave's (Nexusdj) OHLE is great. Just what you need. Seems to me that you're doing a perfectly good job so far. Not sure what you're worried about. I haven't noticed anything wrong.
Having said that though, in the picture above I would place a gantry of some sort just before the bridge because that change in wire height looks a bit odd without support.
Cheers
Dave
P.S. There are "gantry bridge support" parts that will fit underneath a bridge to support the wire too.

Can you make it ti.... oh, its a route
Well, on seconds thoughts, I guess you never know when an earthquake might strike - so can you make it tilt?

Re: west coast mainline
As Dave said above I'd also have a gantry a bit closer to the bridge though not right next to it , I'd then go back 2 gantries , From the furthest gantry the wires would go from 2m height to half height at the middle gantry then from half to bridge height at the gantry nearest the bridge . It's a fixed contact wire (bottom wire) height in Trainz but on the real thing the contact wire would also be reducing in height so there's a need to have this height reduction spread out so as to limit the forces being imposed on the contact wire from a pantograph running at high speed .macneil wrote:

I'd do the same the other side , If the clearances are tight under a bridge then its best to keep the wire length between supports as short as possible to help limit the deflection of the catenary wire upwards as the pantograph passes .
In a lot of instances additional supports are attached under the bridge to help keep the wires in check .
(That's a feature I've not reproduced yet ).
Half height single masts at Tamworth (though these are the upgraded PUG2 type):

Re: west coast mainline
Officially the contact wire must be no higher than 18 feet 6 inches (usually only that high over level crossings) and no lower than 13 feet 6 inches (usually under bridges and through tunnels.) That's in the real world though, in Trainz it's all one height as Dave says. However, the illusion Dave has created with his varied wire heights is very convincing and if you place a "gantry bridge support" in the right place under the bridge you can get away with it without it sticking through the top of the bridge structure (or you could just have a very thick road )Nexusdj wrote:...It's a fixed contact wire (bottom wire) height in Trainz but on the real thing the contact wire would also be reducing in height...
Cheers
Dave
P.S. I just found one of my pictures that shows Dave's stuff and how I used it to go under a bridge:
I'll see if I can dig that bit of a route out tomorrow at some point and get you some more pictures of the other side of the bridge which is much more detailed OHLE wise.

I hope this route will be released once complete. But in the meantime is they any other WCML routes for trainz?
