GWR loco ticking sound
Hopefully someone can shed some light on this; does anyone happen to know what makes the ticking noise on a GWR steam loco when they are moving. I've always wondered when watching videos or being behind one on a heritage line.

Re: GWR loco ticking sound
I haven't ever heard a GWR loco but on the kettle I fire (or fired before the great lockdown), the automatic lubricator in the cab makes a ticking/clacking noise as it turns. This only operates when the loco is moving so I'd hazard a guess that this is what you have heard. On some locos these are located alongside the boiler on the sole bar.
