Greetings from Joey

Post by Platform 3D »

Good morning all!

Lovely to meet you all. My name is Joey (not the same Joey from Friends... but I like the way you think!)

I'm a new kid on the block, but I am looking forward to getting stuck into this community of fellow 3D train modellers. I'm 26, originally from Swindon in Wiltshire, but I've been living in the County Town of Dorset since 2008... which was around the time I first started using SketchUp (back in the days when it was owned by Google). I am completely self-taught at modelling on SketchUp (none of my friends or family haven't the faintest idea how to use it... I'm sure none of them have even heard of it).

Back in 2011 I uploaded my first model: The London Underground C69/C77 stock (https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/model/ ... face-Stock)

In 2013, I gradually stopped modelling on SketchUp and I hadn't uploaded anything for 7 years (with various ups and downs in life taking up most of my time). Until last year when I got back into the swing of it. During the first lockdown, I found a way to keep myself occupied... I threw myself back into the world of SketchUp. Inspired by the many railway adventures I used to have before the pandemic, I ended up creating the Class 800/801/802, as well as the Class 700/707/717. I have uploaded these onto my SketchUp 3D Warehouse, to which I decided to give a brand identity: Platform 3D. The name was inspired by the oddity of some railway platforms being split into "A", "B" and sometimes "C" ends. I'm absolutely chuffed to bits with how far my SketchUp creations have come since I started out back 2008.

Please feel free to have a look around: https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/user/0 ... latform-3D

I am currently working on a very exciting project, one which I have been working on since the summer of 2020: the Intercity 125 High Speed Train! It is finally nearing completion. It is always a bit sad when I get to the end of a SketchUp project, knowing there's nothing left to do and it's time to send it out into the world for all to enjoy. But the excitement is sending my 3D models out there, hoping that people will enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them. It's like building a Lego set... 95% of the fun is the construction phase. There's that sense of feeling aimless once the construction has finished. But with the completion of every project comes the start of a new project.

I hope to get the Intercity 125 HST model finished as soon as possible. I need to finish working on the bogies on the power cars, and some extra traction equipment detailing. Then onto the task of modelling the HST in all the various liveries, from the original British Rail blue, grey and yellow to the modern day ScotRail Inter7City, GWR and LNER liveries. I aim to get everything finished and ready to be uploaded onto my SketchUp 3D Warehouse page by the end of the month. And I hope that you all enjoy them. Alot of research, coffee, time, brain power (even the odd tears and tantrum) has gone into making this model. But seeing as the Intercity 125 is a train which is immensely loved by pretty much everyone, I put my every effort into this project. I certainly hope I have done it justice, and I hope I will make the great Sir Kenneth Grange proud for modelling his masterpiece. I can't wait for you all to see the finished product!

If anybody has any questions regarding my SketchUp models, please don't hesitate to get in touch. I would be more than happy to help with any queries you may have.

Until my next train arrives on Platform 3D, stay safe, have a great day, and thank you for welcoming me into this creative community!

Many thanks from Joey at Platform 3D
