Hello from Chicago, IL - USA

Post by snrmike »

My name is 'Maz' - Mike Maslowski. I'm a pensioner living in a suburb of Chicago - USA. I have been a casual Trainz customer since 2014. Love what you folks have done with the platform. I just discovered this site for the Cornish Railways routes in the past month and just discovered this website after watching one of Mark's YouTube videos. So far, I am quite impressed with your work. It's actually quite breathtaking.

I am looking forward to perusing your site over the next few weeks to discover more hidden gems! Great work... Thank you!

Cheers!

Welcome to the forum Maz, it's been rather quiet in here recently, which is a shame, its its nice to have a new member, and glad you found us :)
Was it the St Erth to St Ives YouTube video I uploaded the other day?
I do plan on making more videos of the route.

Yes it was this one: "Trainz - Cornish Railways 1.6 route - St Erth to St Ives"
You might want to edit the description of the video and add the URL for this site. There are several sites that pop up when searching "British Trainz".
It didn't take me long, but I had some free time on my hands to fully investigate.

The video was stunning and made me keep searching until I found you! I had also previously downloaded a few Cornish Railways v1.3 sessions from DLS. I've never been in that part of the world, but I enjoy videos of the region and really enjoy the new sessions from a reliable creator such as yourself. I am currently using TrainzPlus. The detail in your sessions is excellent!

Great site. I will be donating in the coming days ahead. Very nice work indeed.

Cornish Railways 1.7 is the latest version, and alot has changed since 1.3, the whole route now uses much more accurate LIDAR data for the ground heights, which for a hilly county like Cornwall makes a big difference, before I was mainly guessing the hights using the old low resolution DEM data from NASA and manually placed tiles with OS map overlays on them to lay out the tracks, roads and fields. Since the Environment agency scanned the whole of the uk there is now free LIDAR data available which maps out the embankments and cuttings as well, that can be imported with Transdem and map tiles be placed on top with satellite photography making it easier to place the tracks, buildings etc.
And since I rebuilt the Looe branchline I added a couple more trees around there and shrubs and more trackside plants, ferns and flowers which i'm now slowly modifying the whole route so it all has the same trees and trackside plants, most branchlines have now been done, just the Freight only Parkandillack one to do then the mainline West of Liskeard.
Sadly it's too big to go on the DLS as I've expanded alot of baseboards which makes a big difference to how far can be seen especially when on top of a hill, the only downside to this is that the route is now too big to go on the DLS, so I upload it to British Trainz.
Most of the old sessions were broken, as tracks had been replaced or completely rebuilt and now in a different place or height where I moved them to be in the correct place now the Height data was more accurate. so when I uploaded 1.5, I went through all the sessions, and rebuilt the old ones for 1.5+, I have since started making new ones, and all the passenger branchlines now have multiple sessions.

Cornwall certainly is a stunning county, and I've really enjoyed living here and building the route as closely as possible to real life.

It is indeed a pity. Where is everyone?

Welcome Maz.

Is 1.7 listed on this site or another? The latest route I see is 1.6

Thanks very much for the warm welcome!

I also just looked at the original video description, and forgot I didn't add the link, simply because I couldn't as it was a new account I had to photograph my ID then send it to Google for them to approve before I could put links in the description, they have now verified my ID.
